Toe presses isolate the calves completely, thus putting the entire focus of weight into that muscle. By doing jumping exercise you disperse the forces into the other muscles of the lower leg and upper leg as well. This is great for creating an overall toned effect, without adding excess bulk to the large belly of the calf muscle alone. Make sure your reps are above 20 for each set, and you should notice a great improvement in your calves without the bulk.

I've had a lot of muscle on my calves forever because it's genetic in my family and if I leave them alone, they make my legs look like they're covered in fat instead of muscle which is a really awkward proportion because my whole upper body is skinny. I've been doing toe presses for a few years and my legs look slightly better. At first when I did them, my calves shaped well, but after a few years (and I have significantly increased the amount of reps from 200 to 1000), my legs aren't improving anymore.

The reason for my very long explanation is that I've heard on other sites that jumping will just make my calves bigger and I don't want that, but what you talk about in the beginning of your video and how the muscle will look is what I want my calves to look like.

Do you think these exercises are for me? Or will they just bulk me up even more?

Hi Kim. This shouldn't be much of a problem. Because you have gastric bypass it basically forces you to eat much smaller quantities but more frequently. This is actually quite advantageous because you wont be getting large spikes in your blood sugar. Just follow your doctors recommendations and you will do great with the Totally Toned Arms program.

I would also recommend buying a juicer and making your own fruit and veggie juice. It will pay for itself very quickly.

Hi Coach Duggan,

I just finished reading "Totally Toned Arms" and I'm motivated to get started, but I have some concerns about the eating plan.

I had the gastric bypass surgery in 2006 and I'm unable to eat the required amount of solid food for the plan; therefore, I'm planning to drink veggie juice and a whey protein drink that includes the fruit portion in order to offset. However, because of the gastric bypass surgery I'm also unable to eat solids and consume liquids at the same time. I have a 30 minute window of time to wait in between eating and drinking.

I'd like to know how this would affect the results of this program and if you have any suggestions or modifications for someone with this issue.

Thanks,
Kim
