At the request of one of my Fat Loss Project clients, Carla, I wanted to share a couple pictures of our Christmas tree expedition that we took yesterday.
I’ll admit, most Christmas trees off of a sales lot or Christmas tree farm are going to be far more aesthetically pleasing than one you’ll find on your own out in the bush.
However, there’s just something to be said for getting out into the woods and into the fresh air and finding your very own tree. My wife and I took a drive up some forest service roads after a fresh snow fall of a few inches, and it was a perfect winter wonderland. Making our own fresh tracks in the snow, we found a little trail leading up to an old logging cut-block, and after a short search, found this little guy pictured above.
It was a comfortable -10 degrees Celsius, and my saw was sharp, so it didn’t take long to bring it down and drag it to my trailer. I forgot how the smell of a real Christmas tree can invoke so many instant memories of holidays past.
For the past few years we’ve had to resort to using a fake tree (which I’ve never been proud of) because I didn’t have a way to bring a real one home. But since I sold my car last year and bought a new Jeep (I’ve always been a huge Jeep fan) and more recently added the little utility trailer you see behind it – we finally were able to get a real tree – and I am so glad we did!
For a Canadian boy, it’s just not Christmas without fresh snow and a Christmas tree.
Coach Rylan

Thanks Rylan, that made me miss home just a little! Around here in Alberta the trees aren’t great so we have to go to the farm or use our fake tree. It was great to see your pictures, it brought back some memories of being out on those roads with my family searching for our perfect tree.
You will have to send your family big Hugs and wish them all a great holiday season!
That looks like a lovely tree to me!
-10 is not comfortable – anything below 15 degrees celsius is downright cold to me. Mind you, I am used to 35 degrees and more in the summer! Toasty!
Thanks for the photos, Coach,
Reminds me of our Christmasses past in Arkansas when our family with 6 kids would go out into the woods with our Dad and cut our own tree and drag it home..good memories.. Merry Christmas to you and your family! Judy
Will do Kerina, stay warm okay!
And to you and yours Judy!
Hey Coach,
That looks downright COLD! We had a high of 31C over here, yesterday. But, the nights are down to 16C.
Stay warm!
Hey Rylan
Pics look fab – hope all is going well with your second round of the challenge! I wil goet thos epics into you when I ever find my lead!!
Wishing you a great Xmas and Happy New Year!!
Sx
And to you Sarah!
And thanks for checking in – always great to hear from you.
I love the winter – absolutely love it!
To me there is nothing more peaceful then getting up into the mountains after a fresh snowfall. And I love the cold too.
Maybe that sounds strange to some folks, but I guess that’s just the Canadian in me.
Thanks SOOOO much for the great share & the pictures. Love the mountains after a snowfall, the world is so quiet. Throw getting your tree in the mountains ON HORSEBACK, and I am all over that!!! But the Jeep gave you several hundred horses to play with! Have an amazing and blessed holiday this year!
I grew up with horses on the farm. We never got along very well – that’s when I made the transition to Jeeps.
