When I asked you what exercises from the Go Sleeveless Program you wanted me to demonstrate on film, the Deadlift was the second most asked about movement.

The first was the Bench Dip, which I have already demo’d on the old blog.

Many women will question why the deadlift can be considered an arm toning and sculpting exercise because, seemingly, it doesn’t utilize the arms at all.

Remember, arm exercises alone are NOT enough to get toned and sculpted arms. Sure, they are important, but you have to remember the importance of burning fat off your entire body, and adding lean muscle all over – not just on your arms.

This is precisely why any arm program that focuses on arm toning and sculpting exercises alone will fail miserably at eliminating saggy and flabby arms.

The deadlift (stiff-legged or normal version) is a great exercise for working every single ‘pulling’ muscle in your body. Done correctly, and this will eventually become the exercise that you can lift the most weight with, and therefore, burn the most calories with as well.

It’s not uncommon for my female clients to be able to eventually deadlift their own body weight.

Don’t worry if you have to start light, but also don’t be afraid to pile the weight on either – just remember to keep your form PERFECT!

For this exercise to be done correctly, you must keep your back flat (no arching backwards, and especially no hunching forwards). Most of the movement should be happening from the waist and the knees.

Keep the dumbbells or barbell close to your legs at all times (I still have scars on my shins from the days of lifting 400lbs on this exercise) and keep a firm grip because this exercise will really tax your gripping muscles in your forearms.

If you want to eliminate saggy and flabby arms, and transform them into lean and sexy works of art, then the deadlift is an essential exercise to add to your arsenal.

For the rest of the essential arm exercises, check out the Official Go Sleeveless Website.

Click here to see a video demonstration of the Deadlift.
